Note: d the Dillard name as a middle name for his son. I figure there must be more to the story than that but Arthur Dillard Vick's ancestry is pretty well documented and there is no Dillard in it. I have searched for a Capt Dillard in the War of 1812 reportedly stationed at Norfolk to no avail.

Was fondly remembered in John Leoindas Vick's Vick family hjstory where John describes him, "He was a man of strong intellect, was surveyor of Livingston, County Ky. for 8 years and was Justice of Peace when he died. He was a member of Masonic Fraternity."
Excerpts from John Leonidas Vick's History of His Vick Family Cullman, Alabama, December 1895: "On the 12th of July 1823 their fifth child, a son was born and named Arthur Dillard, his nickname was Dick.
You all recollect uncle Dick. Brother Dillard was stricken with paralysis Dec. 10, 1892 and died the 11th of same month. He was a man of strong intellect, was surveyor of Linvingston, County Ky. for 8 years and was Justice of Peace when he died. He was a member of Masonic Fraternity. His widow and 6 children still live in Ky, the youngest son in IL."

Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, Kniffin 2nd ed., 1885 Livingston Co. A.D. VICK was born July 12, 1823, in Livingston County, Ky., and is a son of Arthur and Nancy Vick. Mr. Vick spent his early years amid the active scenes of farm life, and in the common schools of the country received much more than an ordinary English education. He commenced farming on his own responsibility at the age of twenty-two years, devoting what leisure time he could spare from his labors in preparing himself for the profession of civil engineer, for which he early displayed a strong liking. Such was his progress in mathematical studies that in 1866 he was elected county surveyor of Livingston County, a position he filled with credit for a period of eight years, his last term expiring in 1874. He has made his home on a part of the homestead farm, and at the present time, in addition to his farming interest, is filling the position of deputy county clerk under his brother, John L. Vick. Mr. Vick was married to Mary Ann Buchannan, daughter of Patrick and Celia (Hale) Buckannan, of Missouri.
