a. Note:   According to pages 442 and 1430 of the book "Passenger Arrivals at the Port of New York, 1820-1829 by Elizabeth P. Bentley, Christian Furguson (Ferguson) and her son James arrived in New York on the ship "Friends" on the 10th of May 1823 from Greenock, Scotland which is near the Port of Glasgow. The captain of the ship "Friends" was Thomas Choate. Christian's age was recorded as 28 and James' age was recorded as 3 years. The U.S. Customs manifest record is #23-179 (year & ship number).
