Note:   HelloNews Newspaper, Chanute, Neosha County, Kansas, Obituary for Adam Wesley Chickadonz Date: July 22, 1957 Adam Wesley Chickadonz, well known centenarian of Chanute, died Saturday night at the ag e of 102, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. W. D. Daley, at Tulsa. Death was attributed to hi s advanced age. He prefered to be known as a retired farmer, but while a farmer he helped with the building of a portion of Kansas' early day railroad. In 1893 he made the run into Oklahoma at the opening of the Cherokee strip but did not acquire land. His birthdays for the past several years have been occasions for celebration in which his family, church acquaintances and his friend participated. He attributed his long life t o life "trust in God," hard work and not using tobacco or liquor. The son of Conrad and Emeline Chickadonz, he was born May 13, 1855, at Marshall, Illinois . He came to Kansas in 1881, locating on a farm near Earlton. He married Miss Nancy Yoder o f Earlton Jan. 30, 1883, and they reared their family near Chanute. Mrs. Chickadonz died Jan . 23, 1938. Mr. Chickadonz became a member of the methodist church at Earlton and more than 40 years a go transferred his membership to the church in Chanute. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. J. H. Nobel, Orange, California, Mrs. V. A. Woodring , Chanute, and Mrs. Daley, Tulsa, Oklahoma; four sons, George W., Altmont, D. C., W. N., Chan ute, Roy, Phoenix, Arizona, a sister, Mrs. Ben T. Baird, Marshall, Ill., 11 grandchildren, 2 3 g-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2PM in the First Methodist Church, with the Rev. Willi am T. Hunt, of the Presbyterian Church officiating in the absence of the Rev. Judd Dones. Bu rial will be in Elmwood cemetery, in charge of Roy S. Gibson Funeral Home.
