a. Note:   Civil War Service for Archibald M. Nowell:
  Archibald M. Nowell, 32 years old, enlisted into the 46th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Company I on May 10, 1862 as a private in Columbia, Alabama. The 46th Regiment was then organized in Loachapoka, Alabama on June 9, 1862. After organization the 46th Regiment was sent to Tennessee for it's first duty in the Civil War.
 Archibald was wounded in action at Christiana, Tennessee according to his pension application. Apparently after being wounded Archibald spent the remainder of the Civil War at a hospital in Montgomery, Alabama serving as a nurse from January 20, 1863 until the end of the war. He was discharged from CSA military on April 9, 1865.
  Archibald applied for his Civil War pension on July 1, 1912 at the age of 81years old. His application was witnessed by W.T. Worrell. His application was finally approved by the State Board of Examiners on August 15, 1912.
  On a "Descriptive Muster and Pay Roll" dated 1864 from Stonewall Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama it gives a physical description of Archibald M. Nowell. He is listed at 35 years old, hazel eyes, dark hair, dark complexion and 5' 6" tall.
