Note: rriage to Winkfield and birthplace in N.C. would indicate she lived with the Robert Anderson family in Dist. 3/4. Robert has a daughter named Martha, also born in 1798, who married Edmund Goddard and lived till 1875. Possibly, Martha (Patsy) was a niece of Robert Anderson, an orphaned child. Robert Anderson was the son of James and Patty Mallet Anderson. The place to do further research is Surry County, North Carolina, or Buncombe Co., where Robert Anderson moved to in 1794 and lived until coming to White Co. in 1817. In researching the Robert Anderson family, I have found this information: James Anderson, born around 1745 in Northern Ireland, married to Lydia Patty (Martha) Mallat, also born around 1740 in Ireland. James Anderson appears in the 1790 census of Surry Co., NC. Image 4/7, living next to Keziah Jervis. In the household are 4 males over 16, 5 males under 16, 3 females, and one other free man. In 1800, James Anderson Sr. is now living in Buncombe Co. on image 1 of 31 in the Morgan District. Robert Anderson, shown as being 16 to 25 is placed next to him. The Robert Anderson above would be 31 at this time. In the 1810 census, James Anderson Sr. is shown on Image 30/55 as being over 45, with his wife, also over 45, and one son living with him, 16 to 25. The other Andersons listed next to him are James, John, William, and Nathan, all are between the ages of 26 and 44. Robert Anderson is listed on image 45/55, also between 26 and 44, and with 2 boys less than 10, 2 boys bet. 10 and 15, one boy 16 to 25, one girl less than 10, two girls between 10 and 15, and his wife. Robert Anderson and his wife Elizabeth Jarvis Anderson are buried in the Anderson Cemetery, as are all the oldest Hills. In a letter written by James Brents Hill to cousin W.F. Hill, descendant of Abner Hill, dated Jan. 26, 1912: "He (Thomas Hill) and his son, Winkfield Hill, who is my grandfather, are both buried in the Anderson Grave-yard near their old homes in White County. The grave-yard was named from the wife of my grandfather, who was Pattie Anderson. Great-grandmother, Katherine and Grandmother Pattie are buried in the same grave-yard." White Co. Will Book 1851-1855, p. 53: "Years provision to Martha Hill Returned upon oath Nov. Term 1851. We the undersigned for holders of White County after Being duly sworn have proceded to set apart to Martha Hill, widow of Winkfield Hill deceased, so much of the crop and provisions on hand as will be sufficient in our oppinion to support her and family one year from the Death of her husband......" Will Book 1841-1866, p. 219. Last Will and testament of Martha Hill was established to the court. James M. Sanderson and William F. Greer (sons-in-laws) were empowered to be executors of her will. FHL#507883 Probate Records White Co. TN 1841-1967. Will Book 1841-66. p. 307-8. Inventory and acc. of sales of the estate of Martha Hill Dec. List includes sale of items to A. MBride, CC Greer, J.A. Hill, E.A. Sanderson, P.H. Hill, M.J. Hill, W.A. Lowrey among others. The total of the sale was $496.61.
Note: Martha (Patsy) Anderson's relation to the family of Robert Anderson Sr.(1769-1848) is not known at this time. The story is that she was an orphan who lived with the Anderson family in White Co. Her ma
