a. Note:   The 1880 census shows George as single living with mother Elizabeth and no children present. Need to find out about the wife and kids. Gravestone and 1900 census has wife named Anne. In Vol. 26 of County Court Clerk's Office Minute Book, on p. 553 - 554, it states that George M. Hill was elected Sheriff on Aug. 1, 1878 and a group of neighbors and relatives, W.R. Hill, Benjamin Gist, W.B. Cummings, etc. bind themselves to a $12,000 bond to the State of Tennessee to guarantee his honest administration of the office.
