a. Note:   Gravestone says he was born in North Carolina, census and Abner Hill's notes say Georgia. White Co. Will Book Vol. D, p. 3: "Whereas on this 6th day of October AD 1851 the death of Winkfield Hill, late of the County of White deceased was suggested in open court and thus he departed this life intestate. Whereupon James A. Hill was appointed and qualafied administrater. Those are therefore to empower the said Administrater to ..." Recorded on Oct. 10, 1851. G.G. Dibrell Clerk
 In the inventory books of White Co., Vol. A, pages 210 to 212, on Dec., 1851, a sale of the deceased Winkfield Hill's effects took place. His tools, plows, etc. were sold to Elijah Hill, Martha Hill, L.J. Kerr, J.M. Sanderson, A. McBride, Catherine Hill, Joab Hill, among others. The total was $486.81. James A. Hill was the administrator. FHL #507883.
 In the final disposition of the estate: Will Book p. 202, after the sale and payouts the total to be divided among the heirs is $283.85 3/4.

 April 15, 1822
 P. 435 Ordered by Court that Winkfield Hill be appointed Overseer of the road from rock island to Sparta Beginning at Hills branch thence to a point in said road opposite the house of Joseph Walling that Joshua Pennington be appointed Overseer thereof from thence to Charles Smiths gate and keep the same in repair as the law requires, that David Mitchell Esqr. assign a list of hands to work thereon and that the same be returned to the next term of this Court. Issd.
  From a letter from James B. Hill to W.F. Hill, dated Jan. 26, 1912: "Abner Hill changed the faith of Winkfield Hill, my grandfather, to the Christian Church and all my people are members of that church."
