a. Note:   vil War draft began, Mark joined on August 13, 1862 at Knights Prairie for 3 years. At Camp Anna on Sept. 11, he was made Captain of Co. K, called Harper's Co. 110 Reg't Illinois Infantry. He was 30 years old. However on October 26, 1862 he is listed as sick at Sommersett. On November 10, 1862, in camp near Glasgow, Ky. he resigned as Captain due to his illness, which is described as continous fever. A doctor certified that the fever had persisted for four weeks and stated that "Capt Harper is very low and I fear will not recover and certainly cannot stand the winter campaign." On Nov. 24, 1862 that resignation was formally accepted by the Dept. of the Cumberland. I assume he was sent home, there are no further war records on him.
Note:   Mark Harper purchased 3677 acres of Illinois public land for $13 an acre for a total of $460 on September 24, 1855. This was in town 05S, range 6E. Reside 033. TD 474781. Vol. 112, p. 214. When the Ci
