Notes
a. Note:   White County Minute Book: (P-308)
State of Tennessee (June 3, 1839)
This day Elizabeth Hill late Elizabeth Pinner being over the age of fourteen years appeared in open Court and made chose of Winkfield Hill to act as her Guardian whereupon the said Winkfield being present in open Court took the oath required by law and together with Elijah Hill and Lewis Pettett entered into and acknowledged bond in the sum of one thousand dollars conditioned as the law requires.
  (P-457)
This day Winkfield Hill, guardian to Elizabeth Hill, late Elizabeth Pinner, and one of the heirs of Dempsey Pinner, deceased produced in open Court a receipt of his ward in full which at he request is ordered to be recorded.
Tuesday morning 8th June A.D. 1841. Court met pursuant to adjournment.
When Elizabeth married Joab Hill, she was noted as Mrs. Elizabeth Pinner, which would seem to indicate that she was a widow who had a first husband named Pinner. That does not seem correct, given her young age. In her later years, after Joab has died, she is living with George Howard and his wife Jane, the former Jane Pinner. Elizabeth's gravesite is not known, however, there is a grave next to George Howard in Anderson Cemetery that has a marker, but no inscription. It is possible that this is her gravesite.
White Co. Will Book 1841-1866: On Oct. 11, 1853 Elizabeth Hill, widow of Joab Hill Deceased years provisions assigned by Commissioners 11th Oct. 1853.....
In tax records for years1875 through 1890 Elizabeth Hill, variously referred to as Widow Hill, and Betsy Hill, and E.H. Hill is shown paying taxes on 106 acres of land in District 3. In 1895 G.M. Hill is shown paying taxes on this acreage. I believe this is the original 100 acre land grant to Thomas Hill. What does E.H. Hill stand for? Elizabeth Howard Hill?
