Notes
a. Note:   rked as illiterate, but in the 1860 census the parents are marked illiterate. Eliza Jane says her parents are from Virginia in 1880 census, and then in 1900 says they are from Indiana. I cannot find these parents anywhere after 1860, and I cannot find Eliza Jane anywhere in 1870, nor George F. It seems their parents died before 1870 and the children were scattered to different places. I found William and John S. in Indiana, Decatur Co., Forest Hill P.O. living with the family of James George.
Note:   Although John says he was 40 in the 1860 census, I am using the 1850 date as probably more accurate. John owned property in 1850 in Martinsville, but must have sold it by 1860. In 1850 they are not ma
