Notes
a. Note:   «tab»Dr. J. P. Thomas of this city, died of paralysis yesterday morning at 4 o'clock, at his home on Virginia street. He was stricken some weeks ago and went to Louisville, but failed to improve much if any and was brought home about two weeks ago. Last week he had another stroke, from which he never rallied. He gradually grew worse until death ended his useful career.
Joseph Potts Thomas was born Sept. 9, 1830, in Clarksville, Tenn., where at the age of 12 years he entered a drug store, and 12 years of experience made him an excellent pharmacist. Dr. Thomas was the youngest of nine children, several of whom were doctors. He was educated in a number of good medical colleges, graduating in 1859 and again in 1868. In 1856 he was married to Miss Louisa J. Radford. To them were born eight children, the youngest of whom, Dr. F.P. Thomas, has just graduated and entered upon the practice of the profession so long honored by his father. Dr. Thomas' first wife died a number of years ago and he was remarried a few years ago, to Miss Emma Kellogg, of Brooklyn, N.Y., who survives him.
Dr. Thomas moved from Pembroke to this city about two years ago and at once took rank with the leading physicians of the city. He had long been recognized as one of the most learned doctors in the county, eminently successful in various branches of the profession. As a surgeon he had few equals in this portion of Kentucky.
He was a prominent Mason and a member of the Baptist Church.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 o'clock this morning. Interment in Hopewell Cemetery.
Dr. Thomas leaves his family well provided for , as he had accumulated a handsome estate.
