Notes
a. Note:   er of Forest Beach.
William Abernethy, a pioneer resident of Watervliet township, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.J. Hammel in this village, Monday evening, July 15, 1907, aged 76 years, 5 months and 6 days, after a brief illness.
Mr. Abernethy was born in Canada in the year 1831. At the age of 14 he went to Oswego, New York, where he lived until his marriage to Mary Ann Akin, who died March 26, 1895. In 1861 he moved to Watervliet, Michigan, where he remained until his death.
James and Nancy Abernethy were the parents of eight children, of whom William, the deceased, was the sixth. Only one sister and one brother survive, both of whom were too feeble to attend the funeral of the departed.
He was the father of three children, Harve, James and Laura, two surviving him, Harve Abernethy of Covert and Mrs. Laura Hammel of Watervliet, at whose home he passed away at the same age as his father. He also leaves six grandchildren, Vera, Laura, Mary, Frances and Johnie Abernethy and Eunice Hammel.
The funeral was held at the M.E. Church in this village yesterday afternoon, Rev. J.S. Valentine conducting the services. Interment in the Watervliet Cemetery.
Mr. Abernethy was the owner of the land on which Forest Beach resort is situated. He, together with his son James, plotted the resort a number of years ago, and at the time of his death held extensive interests there. [obituary, reseach of Jean Danielski].
