Notes
a. Note:   Biography per Desmond Bonnington, letter to Valmae Goodwin dtd. Dec. 19, 1986:
" ... my father ... was an expert printer and linotype operator/machinist. While not officially a member of the Socialist party he had leanings that way. He was highly respected by the employing printers and newspaper publishers for his integrity even though he was tough to deal with when he represented the typographical union. When I worked at the trade I was told of his many virtues by employers in San Francisco. How much formal education he had I never knew, but he was an above-average speaker and a superb writer."
per Desmond Bonnington, letter to Valmae Goodwin dtd. Nov. 22, 1986:
"My father, mother and Uncle Gerald were all printers. My brother Len and I were also printers. ... My father was an organizer for the International Typographical Union and later president of San Francisco Local union. I was first vice president of that local when I dropped out of line to go to law school, and was admitted to practice in 1939. Uncle Gerald was president of Oakland Typo Union."
