  "Francis tried several occupations before settling down as a hardrock miner in the gold mines. Then when we got active in building a defense in anticipation of entering WWII he worked in building tunnels, removing masses of rock, building railroads and airfields. Subsequent to the end of the war he did similar work all over the world. It was in building a dam in Taiwan that he met and married Ayu Chen. His last several years were spent in owning and operating a retail pet food and garden supply store."
