Text:   CHRISTIAN NOSBISCH ONE OF THE COUTNY'S MOST PROMINENT MEN
Died At His Home East of Town Last Friday Afternoon—Funeral Services Wednesday
The news of the death of Christian Nosbisch one of this county's most prominent men, reached us Friday afternoon and carried with it one of the most severe shocks that has been experienced for some time. It has been known for some time past that Mr. Nosbisch was in failing health and his declining years made his recovery to health seem almost impossible, but there is always a hope as long as there is life that the sufferer may be relieved and that he may be spared to his friends and the members of his family. Mr. Nosbisch had attained the ripe old age of eighty years and by his careful and skillful management had amassed quite a snug little fortune. His advise on any subject with which he was familiar was considered to be final by all his acquaintances and was frequently sought and freely given. He was a man of sterling qualities and always stood ready to stand by his fellow men in their hours of need.
He was a native of Rhine Province, Germany, and the teutonic trails of true friendship and congeniality were ever evident throughout the longevity of this good man. He was a member of the Catholic Church at this place and was also very active in the St. Peter Sodality which organization honored him on four different occasions by choosing him as their delegate to the State convention of German Catholic Societies. He was always ready with a willing mind and hand for any thing that might be for the betterment of his friends or neighbors or the community in which he lived. His presence, and his citizenship are gone from us but the good he has done for the uplifting of his fellow men can never die.
Christian Nosbisch was born January 23, 1863, in Hettinger, Kreis, Betberg, Rhine Province, Prussia, and came to this country in 1857, first locating in the northern part of this state and Iowa, then he came to St. Clair county and later in the fall of 1868 came to St. Francis Township. On the fourteenth of November 1871 he was united in marriage with Anna Mersdorf who preceded him to the great beyond less than a year ago.
To this union was born eleven children, one of whom died in infancy. Those living are: Mrs. William (Susie) Miller; John, Mathais, Nicholas, Mrs. Dan (Catherine) Ordner; Mrs. Joe (Mary) Zerusen; Mrs. Harry (Anna) Thoele; Lilly, Barbara and Theresa.
Funeral services were conducted at the church here Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock by Rev. Father Theodosius followed by interment in the St. Francis cemetery. The remains were followed to their last resting place by one of the largest concourses of sorrowing friends and relatives ever assembled on an occasion of this kind, all which go to prove the very high esteem in which the deceased was held by those who had the pleasure of his acquaintance during any portion of his useful life.
We extend our condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved children and relatives in the loss of the father and kin.
  Card of Thanks
We wish to thank the many friends and neighbors who so untiringly assisted us during the sickness and after the death of our beloved father, Christian Nosbisch, and especially do we wish to thank Rev. Fr. Theodosius for his services and many acts of kindness during our bereavement. THE CHILDREN.

Text:   MRS. C. NOSBISCH DEAD PASSED AWAY SUNDAY NIGHT AT 10:30 P. M.
Leaves Large Family to Mourn Their Loss.-Burial Wednesday Morning
The community was shocked Monday morning when the announcement was made that Mrs. Christ Nosbisch was dead. But few knew she was ailing and the announcement came as a surprise. While she had been sick for some time she was able to be up and around, having been to Teutopolis as late as Wednesday preceeding her death. She was bothered with gall stones and Sunday took worse and that evening had an attack of heart failure which resulted in her death. The deceased was well known to a very large circle of friends. She was a good Christian lady and her departure will leave a vacancy that will not be filled.
The subject of this sketch was born in the province of Duddledorf, Germany, on May 5, 1853. She came to this country with her parents, John Mersdorf and wife, in 1864, coming direct to Teutopolis. On Nov. 23, 1871, she was united in marriage to Christian Nosbisch and they went to housekeeping on his farm in St. Francis township. By industry and saving they soon accumulated a large amount of land and at her death they were one of the wealthiest families of that township. She is survived by the following children:-Mrs. Wm. (Susie) Miller, John, Matthias, Nicholas, Mrs. Daniel (Katie) Ordner, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Zerrusen, Mrs. Harry (Anna) Thoele, all married and living in the community, and Misses Lillie, Barbara and Thresia at home. One son died in its infancy. Besides the above, she leaves 14 grand-children and one sister, Mrs. John Burford.
The funeral services were conducted at the Catholic church Wednesday morning, burial being in the Catholic cemetery. The funeral was one of the largest attended held here for some time. Quite a number from Effingham and other surrounding towns were present. From a distant we noted the following: John Hoffman and wife of Chicago, Sam Waymeyer and wife and Nick Nosbisch, wife and son, Harry, of Villa Grove, Henry Wegstein and wife of Cullom, Mrs. Frank Drendel, son Frank, and daugthers, Barbara and Anna, of Cullom.
 Card of Thanks
We take this method of extending our heartfelt thanks to Rev. Father Theodosius and all the friends and neighbors for the many acts of kindness shown us during our recent sad bereavements in the loss of our wife and mother. May God justly reward
 -

Notes
a. Note:   Anna's obituary says the marriage date was Nov 23, but the marriage license says Nov 14. The license needs to be reviewed and Nov 14 may be the date the license was issued, not the marriage date. Christian's obituary states Nov 14.
