Title: Obituary - Mary Deters (1862) Text: MRS. HENRY NIENDICK KILLED BY PENNSY TRAIN Mrs. Henry Niendick, nee Mary Deters passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital at Effingham about 10:30 o'clock Saturday evening, July 1, 1933 as the result of being hit by a Pennsylvania engine switching on the tracks at the Clinton Avenue I. C. crossing at Effingham. Mrs. Niendick, who had been employed at the Star Cafe in Effingham for some time past was on her way to work at 8:45 P. M. Saturday, and as she neared the railroad crossing, she waited for a passenger train to pass and apparently failed to see or hear the switch-engine when she started across the tracks. Witnesses to the accident were unable to warn Mrs. Niendick of her approaching danger until it was too late. Altho her body was horribly mangled, Mrs. Niendick was still conscious when picked up and rushed to St. Anthony's hospital where she lapsed into unconsciousness shortly after her arrival, dying at about 10:30 o'clock. Mrs. Ninedick was about 68 years old at the time of her death and is survived by three daughters and two sons, namely: Anna (Mrs. Herman) Westendorf of Dieterich; Catherine (Mrs. Frank) Kemme of Effingham; Agnes (Mrs. Owen) Steffy of Cincinnati; Frank of Terre Haute and Anthony of Dieterich. Her husband died about 7 years ago. Mrs. Niendick was a former resident of Dieterich but had been residing at 410 Linden Ave., Effingham, for some time past. She was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Church at Effingham where funeral services were held Tuesday morning, July 4th. Burial took place in the cemetery at Dieterich. Anton Deters of Teutopolis is a brother of Mrs. Niendick.

Title: Obituary - Gerhard Deters (1828) Text: Anton Deters, Sr., Dead. Anton Deters, Sr., one of the best known and respected residents of the St. Francis township died Tuesday night at 10:30 after an illness of only five days. Last Friday he took down with a severe cold and it developed into pneumonia. The deceased has been a resident of St. Francis township for forty-four years and was well known to the people of this community. He was an upright man in every way and lived a useful life. His demise will be felt in the community. Anton Deters was born in Hoelse, Hanover, Germany, on Feb. 7th, 1828. He came ot this country in 1860 and located in St. Labory where he lived for three years after which he came to St. Francis township, living there ever since. he was married in 1860 to Angela Roepkin and was the father of nine children three of whom are living: Mrs. Henry Niendiek of Dieterich, Mrs. Wm. G. Pruemer and Anton with whom him and his wife made their home. His wife is also living and at the present time is very sick. About 21 years ago he made a visit to his old home in Germany. The funeral will take place Friday morning from the Catholic church. Title: Obituary - Maria Roepkin (1837) Text: Mrs. Anton Deters Dead. Mrs. Anton Deters died at the home of her son, Anton, in St. Francis township Friday night after an illnes of long duration. Her death was not unexpected as she had been very low for some time and her age made recovery seem doubtful. She would have been 71 years the 22nd of this month had she lived. She was well known to a large circle of friends having resided in St. Francis twownship for the past 44 years. She was a good women and an upright Christian. Her death will be mourned by many. Mary Angela Roepkin was born at Hoelse, Hanover, Germany, on Jan. 22, 1837. She became the wife of Anton Deters in 1860 and to the union nine children were born, three of whom are living. Mrs. Henry Niendiek of Dieterich, Mrs. Wm. G. Pruemer and Anton. In 1860 she came to this country with her husband and located at St. Laborie, Ill., and after a residence of three years there they came to St. Francis township and resided ever since. The funeral took place Saturday morning at nine o'clock from the Catholic church and was largely attended.
