Notes
a. Note:   As of 1/1/2000, I (JPC) have no record of Mary Elizabeth's death, although Caleb was shown to be widowed and living with his mother, Jemima Barron Childress at the time of the 1880 census (taken in August 1880). Caleb remarried in 1883 and it seems likely that Mary died at or shortly after the birth of their second child, Mary Elizabeth Childress, who was born November 23, 1879.
UPDATE: In February 2013, I found the 1850-1885 Federal Census Mortality Schedule for Smith County, Texas and it confirmed that Mary E. Childress died at home giving birth to a child in November 1879. The attending physician was Dr. Samuel Overton, her father.
