Note: Donald Thompson was a true Southern gentleman. I only had the pleasure of knowing him from the years 1984 onward through the remainder of his life. We played golf together a few times, and I thoroughly enjoyed his company. His latter years were not very pleasant for him or his family, as he died from a severe case of senile dementia. Carol Anne was with him to the bitter end. That period of his life notwithstanding, Donald was an exceedingly engaging person, with a wonderful sense of humor and a true regard for the dignity of everyone, regardless of any "labels" other people might try to attach to them.
