Notes
a. Note:   as the eldest son of John and Margaret (Harnet) Loutzenhiser, who came from Westmoreland in the spring of 1800 and located in what is now West Salem township. Jacob grew to manhood on the old homestead west of Greenville, and lived in West Salem nearly 89 years. He was twice married, first to Salome Miller in 1821, who bore him ten children, eight of whom grew up: Eliza, dec, Lucretia, dec, Levi, dec, David, dec, Catharine, dec, Samuel, Margaret and John. HIs wife died in 1844, and he was again married March 31, 1847, to Maria J Paul, who has borne him ten children: Salome, Sarah A, Mary, Henry, Jacob, Allison, Anderson, Charles, dec, Jane and Caroline. Mr Loutzenhiser cast his first vote for Monroe, then voted for Jackson and since that time was a Whig and Republican, casting his vote for Blaine in 1884. He served as County Commissioner one term, and deputy sheriff two terms, once under his cousin, Jacob Loutzenhiser. He and Col Andrew Christy were regarded as two of the best marksmen and most expert hunters in the Shenango Valley during pioneer days. Mr Loutzenhiser's memory was quite bright up to a recent date, though his wiry, well-knit frame was weighed down under the infirmities of a ripe old age. He rarely left the house, but sat and dreamed over the scenes of pioneer days which were stamped upon his memory far more vividly than events of recent years. The funeral occurred on Saturday, Rev C S Tinker conducting the services. The remains were interred in the Baptist Cemetery in West Salem."(Advance-Argus, Greenville, Pa, Nov 15, 1888, p.5)
