Evelyn Margaret Custodio Godfrey was called home to be with the Lord suddenly on June 8, 2014. She is survived by her children, Marie Bodine (Mike) of Washington Twp, John Custodio (Nancy) of Gloucester Twp., Joe Custodio (Lorraine) of Washington Twp., and Valerie Bocchicchio (Patrick) of Mt. Ephraim. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Kate and Josh Bodine, Kelly Hughes (Ryan), Karen Custodio, Bobby Custodio of South Carolina, Joe Custodio (Maura), Devin Custodio, Dylan Custodio, Pasquale Bocchicchio and Austin Bocchicchio, and two great grandsons, Christian and Henry Hughes. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Dolly Guevara of Gloucester Twp, Eleanor Gatsby (Robert) of Massachusetts, and Gloria Godfrey of New Hampshire; nephew Tony Guevara of Gloucester Twp., and niece Jeannie Cotter of Washington Twp.
Evelyn was the only daughter of Sven and Frieda Lindstrand of Philadelphia and Oaklyn, NJ. She attended school in Oaklyn and Collingswood. After high school she married the late Roy Custodio, Sr., who was serving in the Navy at the time. She was a proud Navy wife and enjoyed moving around to each duty station. After his death in 1972, Evelyn became a single mother of four young children at a young age and raised her family while working a full time job at the Camden County Sheriff's department. She later married Royce Godfrey and shared over 40- years together before his death in December 2013.
Evelyn (aka Lindy Lou to her kids) and Royce raised the four children together and celebrated their life milestones: graduations, weddings, and the birth of their grandchildren and a great grandchild. Evelyn was a wonderful and caring mother and friend. She loved her family and was always there for her children through life's ups and downs. She was always ready with a family story and the usual "when I was your age" admonition. She was a life long friend to Barbara Gube Deffler whom she felt was more of a sister than a friend. Evelyn was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star - Collingswood Chapter, the Red Hats, and the American Legion Auxiliary of the Stetser-Lamaratine Post 281.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Blackwood, 899 Little Gloucester Rd., Blackwood, NJ. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with service to follow at 11:00am. A private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to First Baptist Church - Memorial Garden, PO Box 254, Blackwood, NJ 08012 (www.fbc.blackwood.org), Choices of the Heart, www.choicesoftheheart.com or , www.kidney.org.
