Doug grew up in the Black Oak section of Gary and has many good friends who still live there. In 1982 he moved his family to Oklahoma City and has lived here for the last 25 years. He was always ready to help a friend in need and made many friends with his happy go lucky attitude. He loved to fish and work on cars. He was an industrial maintenance engineer, working at different companies for most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Eugene and Elizabeth Geneva (Burkhart) Harris; sisters Georgene Sumner and Patricia Anderson and one grand-daughter Heavenly Johnson. Doug was a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest, he knew he wouldn't be here for the long haul. He worked hard and played hard, the perpetual kid, sometimes I had to get onto him right along with the kids. Everyone he met was his friend and it didn't take him long to give them a nickname, all his friends had them, that's just how he was. He loved to fish, not that there are many fish in OKC but he went anyway just to sit by the lake and relax. He always had a project car or truck out back that he was restoring, his other love, working on cars. He was a talker, couldn't play the quiet game at all. He couldn't do any of this for a long time before he died, he was ready to go. He is with his mom and dad and sister's now, he is holding baby Heaven on his lap and he hasn't stopped talking since he got there. My heart is breaking, but he is happy now, no more pain, no more sorrow....I will always Love You Baby. Just because I no longer stand in front of your eyes doesn't mean you can't see me...Close them,..I am there... Just because I no longer answer when you call my name doesn't mean you can't hear me...Speak softly,.. listen carefully,..there is my voice... Just because I can no longer touch your hands doesn't mean you can't feel me...Hold on to another,..my arms are there... Just because I am no longer there to show you I love you doesn't mean my love is gone...Place your hand on your heart,..feel its beat...I am there... Know that I am with God... Know that God is with you... And in that we are still with each other......... Just because... - Edward L. Baugher III Published in The Oklahoman on 2/24/2008.
