a. Note:   George remarried after Liz's mom died and Doug doesn't think that his mom (Liz) liked the new wife very much. Doug met him when he was 6 and he was 76 or 78 at that time. That would be 1961 - 78 = 1883. So he was born some time between 1883 and 1885 in Tennessee. Doug says he died right after that with-in a year.

 Hixson Cemetery (OLD) This cemetery is located on the outskirts of Hixson, Tenn about twelve miles north of Chattanooga. The land for the cemetery was given by Ephriam Hixson who was buried there in 1855, his being the oldest marked grave. However there are unmarked graves, said to be those of Indians that are much older.

 The Chattanooga Memorial Park is three miles north of Chattanooga. Follow Dayton Pike north to White Oak turning to right east on Memorial Drive to cemetery. In 1924 the Chattanooga Memorial Park took over what was then known as White Oak Cemetery, and all the old marked graves were moved from Hill City to White Oak.
