a. Note:   He was born at 320 Earl St. in Kingston. He attended Trinity College School (beginning in about 3rd year of high school) in Port Hope and did well in athletics. While there, he would visit his great-uncle Rev. W.T. McMullen at Thanksgiving. He attended university (Queen's and later Carnegie-Mellon in Pittsburgh) but never graduated. He enlisted in the RCAF in 1939 and instructed pilots in Aylmer. He left as a Squadron Leader in 1945. He worked for Heinz in advertising, and at MacLaren Advertising, Vickers & Benson, and the federal government.
