Notes
a. Note:   Note: John Pympe d. 1421 was the son of Reginald and was the beneficiary, with "his heirs male" under the 1411 will of John, son of Sir Ralph de Fremingham, of the remainder of the estate of West Barming (from which Pympe manor had been detached 1302/ 1307), half of East Barming, Loose, Half Yoke, Shales Court, Otham (all near Maidstone), Read Court (Marden) and Staplehurst. As a condition to the bequest he was required to maintain two chaplains to pray for the souls of the Freminghams.
At this time the Pympe's overlord was Humphrey, 6th Earl of Stafford who was descended from a daughter of Thomas of Woodstock, Duke of Gloucester and uncle to Richard II. No doubt it was in the Earl's contingent that John Pympe served in the F rench campaigns of Henry V and Henry VI, as claimed by W.E. Ball, John being present at the glorious victory of Agincourt (1415). For his part Humphrey was created 1st Duke of Buckingham.
