I heard an interesting story regarding George W. Luttrell. His younger sister, Polly, had just gotten married to a James Luttrell (a cousin of sorts) in 1866 and he beat her up really bad just a few days into the marriage. So George went over there and shot him as he walked out onto the porch. They told everyone that he ran off on her. Later they told Polly that he was dead. For the longest time, we knew that Polly's first husband had been shot but never by who. I'm fairly sure this happened in Pulaski County, Missouri. Interestingly, I found a listing on Find a Grave for a James Luttrell in Wall Cemetery, Hawkeye, Missouri. At one time, his date of death was listed as 1866 making me wonder if it's the same person. George's father-in-law, Milton Owen Thornton, who also died in 1866 (hung) is also listed in this cemetery. Ex-Confederates were going around and hanging/killing ex-union soldiers so they most probably atrributed it to this.
