Note: Family stories indicated that when Everett was younger, he cut off several fingers while chopping wood. His mother, Nancy, put turpentine on it and immediately wrapped his hand up in cob webs (lots of cob webs). Well, I've since learned that this story is not true. My mom was always told that Coot lost his fingers by a wood chopping accident, but Kathleen Branson spoke to someone who said they accidentally shot Coot in the hand and that is how he lost his fingers. Either way, he was missing several fingers. UPDATE: I finally found out from his daughter, that Coot accidentially shot his own fingers off and only had his thumb left. He also jumped off a barrel when he was little and hurt his hip (I suspect he dislocated it). Back then they didn't take you to the doctor unless you were dying so left untreated, he walked with a limp from that time on.
