Notes
a. Note:   Polly Ann Luttrell was married first to a James Luttrell and they lived near Camden and Pulaski County, Missouri. But after only a couple of days into the marriage, James beat her up really bad and Polly's brother, George, went over to their house and shot James as he walked out onto the porch. I'm told this was in 1866. At about this same time, Southern Symphatizers were riding around the counties and lynching any ex-Union soldiers they could find so it was most likely atrributed to their doing as George was never arrested for the crime. Later, Polly was just told that James was shot and killed.
Polly married her second husband in 1872 in Schuyler County, Illinois which is where the family came from before settling in Missouri. Her second marriage was to George Mason Dallas Thornton and it is by him that she had all her children. But as fate would have it, George suffered from Epilepsy due to an accident during the war and was prone to having seizures. I'm told that the family came home to find him dead by the fireplace. Polly was left with a bunch of small children, including a 3 month old, and no income. Three years later in 1889, she married "Old Blind" John H. Luttrell of Ozark County, Missouri (down by Springfield). He didn't live that long either and by 1900 Polly found herself a Widow again and returned to Washington County, Missouri where she died in 1912 of Consumption. In her old age, Polly also suffered from Glaucoma and went blind from it as did her other sister, Sarah, but I find no mention of blindness in any of the census records.
