a. Note:   Jonathan Reno went to Schuyler County, Illinois in 1825. He received a bounty land warrant for NENE Section 36, Township 03N, Range 01W, Meridian 4 for 40 acres which is shown dated 12 November 1827. He purchased additional property in 1833 and 1836.   Jonathan served in the 4th regiment. of the Illinois Mounted Volunteers during the Black Hawk War in 1832 and received a Bounty Land Warrant (No. 26119) for 120 acres of land in 1855. He gained the rank of Corporal even though it is recorded he lost his horse. In 1836 they purchased a farm near Ridgeville. He was a township supervisor and one of the founders of "The Church at Ridgeville." He was also a Private. in Capt. Vance's Co. of the 1st Illinois Mounted Volunteers in Duncan's Brig. in the Sac & Fox War. His widow Louisa (Thornton) received a pension for his military service, Pension Bureau File No. 703-205 (William L. Reno, 1975, ms.).
  Roger Reno adds that "Their farm, acquired in 1836, remained in the family for 132 years before it was sold by Ellsworth Reno in 1968 at his retirement." The Thorntons came to Schuyler County, Illinois, in 1829 from which Louisa Thornton is associated. Sue Damewood adds that Jonathan and his family lived in Iowa in 1842-1843 but by 1849 they are shown living in Browning Township in Schuyler County, Illinois.
