Notes
a. Note:   Iron County Register Newspaper, Ironton, Missouri, February 26, 1885, Page 5, Edwin Watters and Mary Amelung Wedding Announcement: "A Big Wedding at Pilot Knob." Married - At the residence of the bride's parents, by the Reverend Schmukel, Mr. EDWIN WATERS to Miss MARY AMELUNG, Thursday, the 12th of February, 1885 at 2 o'clock P.M.
Mr. and Mrs. Christian Amelung, the parents of the fair Mary, received the friends and relatives of the bride and groom, who were not a few, I assure you. After the general salutation, they were conducted to the room where the presents were deposited. A huge table, erected, I suppose, for the occasion, contained a great many very elegant presents, which, for lack of space, I shall omit to name seriatim. However, they were numerous, costly and appropriate - the useful and ornamental happily combined.
In due time dinner was announced, and a whole regiment - with their wives and daughters and sweethearts - fled into the spacious dining-room. Mrs. Amelung is noted in these parts as an admirable hostess and provider of good things prepared under her own supervision and by the deftness of her own hand, and you may rest assured, Mr. Editor, there was nothing lacking on this occasion. The dinner was simply splendid, and all who partook of it will bear me out in my encomiums. Even lovesick lads and lasses, for the time, forgot their ethereal tendencies, and ate and enjoyed like other people.
If I wasn't too color-blind to tell you blue from green, or white from yellow; of if I knew enough of the millinery art to distinguish frills from lace, I would go ahead and tell you how the bride was dressed; but alas! that is beyond me. All the same, as a lady near me exclaimed, she was "just lovely!" The groom? Oh, well, he looked about as grooms generally do - out of his head, and supremely happy. This couple, just starting out in the serious walk of life - serious, but for that none the less fraught with all that makes life worth the living - bear with them the good wishes of all who know them. May all the better and pleasanter experiences be theirs, is the benediction of Old T.D. - - - - -
On the 1900 census records it shows that Edwin and Mary are living next door to Mary's parents. By 1918, Edwin and Mary are listed as living in Iron Mountain according to her mother's obituary. Mary was blind in her old age. By 1930 they had moved to Festus and this is where Mary and Edwin are buried. Mary had one leg that was shorter than the other and wore a special shoe to compensate. It was a regular shoe on top with rods running down to a platform inches below the shoe to give it height. This meant that there was a gap between the two so her leg must have been quite a bit shorter. She always wore long dresses which pretty well covered up the shoe.
By 1900 Mary had 5 children of which 3 were still living according to the 1900 census records.

Funeral Sun., March 26, 2 p.m. from Fink Funeral Parlors to Lutheran Church, Interment Presbyterian Cemetery.
