At that time he lived with Harold in Silvis at 1821 1st Ave. In 1958, Harold came riding up to our farmhouse on his Harley Davidson and asked my maternal grandmother (Hattie J. Lindquist Reeder) if she would come be his housekeeper to keep an eye on Otto and "run his household as if it were her own." What a blessing. She had been widowed at the age of 60 with no means of income other than a very small social security. She'd had to move out of the house they owned and put it up for rent--then live between the three of her children. But she wound up living with us most of the time because my Dad was a Sweetheart who didn't treat her with the disrespect that her other son-in-law and daughter-in-law did. She had been house-sitting that summer for my Uncle, Leonard Roesner while he and Aunt Ruby were on an extended vacation. Gram gladly accepted. She was happy there. She could walk to the last city bus stop in Silvis and go to downtown East Moline, Moline or Rock Island. She treated Harold like another son. He treated her like his stepmother. Otto fell in love and proposed often! I recall he used to make the rounds every morning and wind all of his clocks. He fell in love with my baby sister who was only 3 at the time. I once saw the Orlowski family bible in his possession. When he died, his executor of estate was Mike Pyevich, who had been a coworker of his. I contacted him about this, but they could not find that bible. Eventually, his house was torn down. His back yard bordered the old Silvis freight yard. Otto used to go back there and talk to hobos. Grandma lived there until she died in 1980 at the age of 88. Harold was a very skilled woodworker and a WWII veteran. I remember meeting Aunt Delora at a bridal shower for Uncle Len's daughter-in-law held at the old Green River school. She was a most jolly, good natured lady. Harold laughed like his mother. I wrote about this information in a collection of recollections that I and my four siblings presented to Dad on his 90th birthday. Do you have the 4-generation photo of Augusta, Amanda, Mamie and Desyl? Please feel free to communicate. Sally Fuhr <sally@derbyworks.net> 12919 175th Street W. Taylor Ridge, IL 61284
