Note: Lydia was born to Henry Amelung and Lena Gockel on October 1, 1887 in Pilot Knob, Missouri. She was baptized in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Pilot Knob on October 30, 1887 with Albert Gockel, Edward Amelung, Louisa Schwab and Josephine Weymeyer as her baptism sponsors. Reverend R. Smukal performed the ceremony. Lydia married Peter W. Ranft and adopted a daughter, Irene (Kahle) Ranft. The 1920 Illinois State Census records show that Edwin Amelung (Lydia's brother) had his brother-in-law, Henry Kahle, living with him. Edwin had married Wilhelmina Kahle. I'm now curious if Irene could have been a daughter of Henry Kahle. Lydia died on Tuesday, May 8, 1984 according to her obituary below. Obituary: Lydia L.
