NEWS OF DAY FROM THE CAPE COUNTY SEAT
William Bodenstein, well known and respected farmer of Byrd Township, died very suddenly Saturday afternoon some time between 2 and 2:30 p.m. at his farm just outside the city limits. He was apparently in the usual health that day, ate a hearty dinner, and complained of no pain. Shortly after the noon meal he left the house to go to the enclosure where the hogs are kept, with the intention to feed the hogs. As he died not return to the house in due time, a search was made and the lifeless body was found near the hog pen. A physician said that Mr. Bodenstein had died from valvular heart disease, from which he had suffered for years.
He was born on April 20, 1858, near Tilsit, and grew to manhood on a farm in that section of the county. On Feb. 19, 1903, he was married to Mrs. Minnie Bodenstein, widow of August Bodenstein, and moved on the farm where he lived until his death. The farm is also known as the Hoffmeister farm. Surviving him are his widow, three children, William Bodenstein, and the Misses Marie and Mildred, and three step-children, Alvin Bodenstein, and the Misses Frieda and Edna, all of whom live on the home farm. One brother, Henry Bodenstein of Gordonville, also survives.
The funeral was held this afternoon with short services at the home and public services at the Emanuel Evangelical church of which he had been a member for years. Interment was made at the old City cemetery.
