On the 1870 census, John and Mary have son, John, born 1861 in Kansas. If they were in Kansas as early as 1861, I would have to believe that Susan went with them and was married to James Peachey in Kansas then moved to Missouri with her husband. This could also explain why her first child was born in Kansas. But all my searches have turned up no marriage license.

Per krpeachey: Hi…I am a descendant of Susan Thornton and James Peachey. I actually figured out who her parents were using DNA. I wasn't sure at first who was her mother….Susan SKILES or Mary BATES…but the DNA matches show pretty clearly that her mother was Susan SKILES. My Dad has over 50 matches to Susan SKILES parents; George SKILES and Mary JUSTUS and only two to Mary Bates family. The Skiles line is one of my most solid lines. Loads of matches along all branches. I hope this helps. K
Question: if Susan (Skiles) Thornton died Nov 25, 1850 and the 1860 census is correct that Susan Earline Thornton was born c. 1852, how can Susan Skiles have a child 2 years after she died?
Cemeteries of Browning Township, Schuyler County, Illinois (compiled by Patt Self, 1997-1998)
 Susan Thornton, w/o J.E. Thornton, died Nov 25, 1850, aged 22 years, 7 mos, 25 days.
