  HENDERSON--Mrs. Agnes E. (Morgan), 76, New Florence R.D. 1, died at 7:30 p.m. Apr. 16, 1958, in Lee Hospital. Born Nov. 5, 1881, in Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Hayden) Morgan. Survived by husband, Winfield, and these children: Bert, Kenneth, Blair and Margaret, wife of Victor Fulcomer, all of Bolivar; Dale and Erwin, both of New Florence; Grace, wife of Joseph Gross, Jr., Latrobe, and Agnes, wife of Homer Caldwell, New Florence R.D. 1; also 42 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Sister of Mrs. Albert Delo, Kokomo, Ind., and Mrs. Mayme Robinson, Duquesne. Preceded in death by these children: Clifford, Wilbur, Cora, Edith, Graham and Grayson. Friends received after 8 p.m. Thursday in home of son, Bert, Bolivar, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment, West Fairfield Cemetery. Arrangements in charge of Kenneth N. Gray Funeral Home, Seward.

  In the early 1980s, during my initial interview with my paternal grandmother, Agnes M. (Henderson) Caldwell, she referred to her maternal grandmother's maiden name as Mary Hayden. It appears that grandma's elder brother Dale Henderson also thought his grandmother's maiden name was Hayden. He was the informant on the death certificate and probably also the obituary that gives the same mistake. Several of great-grandma Agnes's siblings obits or death certificates did, however, indicate their mother's maiden name was Marshall. These include the death certificate of Trovillo V. Morgan, obituary of Katie B. (Morgan) Delo, and the obituary of Mary Elizabeth (Morgan) Robinson. Also, the death certificate of Mary Ellen (Marshall) Morgan herself, with informant Agnes E. (Morgan) Henderson (my great-grandmother) indicated that Mary Ellen's parents were Samuel Marshall and Christina Hayden. Clearly my immediate family had overlooked the single Marshall generation and thought that Mary's maiden name was Hayden when in fact it was Mary's mother Christina who was born a Hayden. Given that Samuel Marshall died before either of his daughters could have even known him, Christina Hayden Marshall and her two young daughters were absorbed into the household of her parents, Thomas O. and Mary (Hayden) Hayden. The daughters grew up in this Hayden household, and perhaps were remembered by members of my immediate family as Hayden girls rather than Marshall girls.
