Notes
a. Note:   ughter. Most of Olga's grandchildren were told that she had died while her children were young. What actually happened was that she was committed to the Colorado state mental hospital at Pueblo after her last child died at the age of two. She lived there for the rest of her life, for more than ten years, till her death in 1947. Her husband (Gustaf) died soon after she went into the hospital, and the children were sent to live with various of Olga's relatives.
It's true that her children were too young to remember many things about her. One of my father's only memories of her was her playing her guitar and singing "Red River Valley." (She was born & grew up very near the Red River in NW Minnesota & eastern north Dakota Territory.) Apparently she performed at church events, camp meeting, etc.
