H. Lewis Succumbs After a Lengthy Illness at Home Near Greenville C. Hurley Lewis, former Superintendent of Education of Butler County, died at his home in the Manningham community Monday morning, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Lewis taught school for some time before being elected as County Superintendent, and served as the head of the county school system for several terms. Since retiring from that position he has operated his plantation, and ranked as one of the outstanding farmers of the county. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph E. Peagler, of Greenville, and Mrs. W. H. Denzel, of Chicago; two sons, N. R. Lewis of Andalusia, and Sidney Lewis, of the Mannington community. Burial was at the Magnolia Cemetery.
