 October 1, 1930 - January 5, 2017
On January 5, 2017, Lois Lorraine (Irwin) Tomecek, 86, went to her eternal home in heaven.Ê She is no longer in pain and has joined her loved ones who have gone on before her:Êher parents (Cornelius B. and Emily V. (Quick) Irwin); her sisters (Virginia Quick, Kathryn Dufkin, Norma Polach, Joyce Ritter, and Charity Mills); and her brothers (Neil, Robert, and Royal).
Lois was born on October 1, 1930 in Saugerties, NY.Ê She has lived in Coxsackie, Athens, and Cobleskill, NY and then moved to Yuma, AZ after retirement.Ê Lois worked in the Marion Store in Coxsackie, the Cobleskill school cafeteria and the SUNY Cobleskill cafeteria.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Henry Tomecek of Yuma, AZ; a son, Richard Tomecek of Dallas, TX; a daughter, Lorraine Lupe (Ernest) of Selkirk, NY; her granddaughter, Aimee Ware of Selkirk, NY (and her children Regina Salazar & Paul Conners); her grandson, Michael Ware (Jessica) of Guilderland, NY (and their children Michael & Alex); a sister, Emily Irwin of Surprise, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
Lois loved to cook and bake and is known for her chocolate chip cookies that she took to family picnics and gatherings.Ê She loved to read and collect cookbooks and cut recipes out of magazines.Ê She has thousands of recipes that she had cut out, but she never actually made most of them.Ê She passed her cooking skills on to her children and grandchildren.
Lois loved hummingbirds and skunks.Ê Some of her stuffed skunks kept her company during her stay at Hollymead.Ê She was their first skunk collector and thatÕs how some of those who took care of her will remember her.ÊOne was an animated musical skunk that sang Amore and it usually put a smile on her face.ÊOne of those skunks given to her by her granddaughter, Aimee, and her great-granddaughter, Regina, accompanied her to heaven.
We wish to thank those at Hollymead in Flower Mound, TX, and Mercy Hospice who took such great care of her during her last days.
There will be no services per LoisÕ request.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please spend the time and money on those that you love while they are still here with you.Ê Buy someone flowers, go out to dinner, go see a movie, go to the casino, do something that you love to do.ÊLois would have liked that.
