Note: N6 Saugerties Post-Star, January 10, 2013 Charity Irwin Mills, on Monday evening, January 7, 2013, went home to be with her Lord. She had resided with her daughter in Niverville for the last two years, and prior to that she lived in Saugerties nearly her entire life. She enjoyed the beautiful views of the Catskills from her home in Blue Mountain for over fifty years. Born August 9, 1920 in Poughkeepsie she was the daughter of the late Cornelius B. and Emily Quick Irwin. She moved to Saugerties and resided with her dear friends, the Sickler family, while she attended school. A graduate of Saugerties High School Class of 1937, and later attended Washington Bible College and Mississippi College. She was married to the Rev. Arien L. Mills in 1943 and later resided in Mississippi and Massachusetts. She returned to Saugerties in 1954 and worked as a bookkeeper at the Cody Lumber Company in Malden-on-Hudson for many years. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Quality Fabrications in High Woods and as a medical receptionist for a number of physicians in Kingston. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Saugerties, but in recent years had attended the First Baptist Church of Rhinebeck. At the time of her death, she was a member of Clearview Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Schodack. Her life centered around her family and her church. She enjoyed music and was a wonderful cook. She also loved to travel and visited the American West and South on numerous trips. She also traveled to Hawaii and to England and Italy. Predeceased by her husband; her daughter Mary Anne Mills Lindsay; her sisters Virginia Quick, Kathryn Dufkin, and Norma Polach; and her brothers Cornelius B. Irwin, Jr., and Robert Irwin. Survivors include a son, L. Keith Mills (Sylvia) of Sloansville, a daughter, Gretchen L. Maresco (Harold) of Niverville, her grandchildren Jerelyn Hesch (Eric) of Esperance, Jared Mills (Jessie) of Springfield, OH, Sally Lindsay-Gibbs (Blaine) of Saugerties, Glenn Lindsay and DaQuan Lindsay of Catskill, Jennifer Banta Breslin (Matthew) of Glendale, CA, Karl Maresco, David Maresco, and Julie Maresco of Niverville; sisters Joyce Ritter (Herman) of Catskill, Lois Tomecek (Henry) of Yuma, AZ and Emily Irwin of Surprise, brother Royal Irwin (Irene) of Medway, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her loss is also mourned by many dear friends. Her Funeral service will be held Friday, January 11 at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, with the Revs. Thaddeus Dragula and Nick Becker officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Mountain Cemetery. Those who wish may contribute to the First Baptist Church of Rhinebeck or the Clearview Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.
