Ruby Octavia Savoie Daigle, 88, a native and resident of Bayou Blue, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today at St. Louis Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
She is survived by three sons, Edley Daigle Jr. and wife, Carolyn Babin Daigle, of Bayou Blue, Lloyd Daigle and wife, Cynthia Fatchett Daigle, of Bayou Blue and David Daigle and wife, Ruth Landry Daigle, of Kenner; one daughter, Kathy Daigle Gautreaux and husband, Roy Gautreaux, of Houma; one son-in-law, Douglas Campbell of Metairie; two brothers, Richard Savoie and wife, Stella, of Bayou Blue, and Paul Carroll Savoie and wife, Elizabeth, of Springfield, Va.; five sisters, Norma S. Falgout of Westwego, Iris S. Brien, Claire S. Marcel, Erna S. LaBauve and husband, Dennison, and Ellen S. Rogers and husband, Clement, all of Bayou Blue; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Savoie; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edley Joseph Daigle Sr.; her parents, Edward Danoudet Savoie and Lucille Severine Babin Savoie; one daughter, Evelyn Daigle Campbell; two brothers, Phillip Edward Savoie and Murry George Savoie; and three brothers-in-law, Linus Falgout, Ivy Brien and Forrest Marcel.
She was the founder, past member and officer of the Bayou Blue Home Demonstration Club, a member of St. Louis Catholic Church Altar Society and a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church.
She taught Catechism for many years, belonged to Bayou Blue Recreation District and was a diligent fair worker for the recreation and church.
She was a gracious lady to all who knew her. Her passing is greatly mourned by her family.

Compilers notes: Ruby was my mother in law for about 38 years. I learned many things from her. One of them was that I'd never be telling those mother in law jokes. This lady was good as gold.
I've told this story often because it taught me a good lesson.
Around 1970 or so, Mom (Ruby) picked me up to go shopping with her. We were at K & B Drugstore in the Houma mall when another lady was coming toward us with her shopping cart. Mom said "Hello, ____, how are you?". To my utter amazement, the lady actually stuck her nose in the air and walked past us. "Mom!, I'm stunned. That lady snubbed you!" "Yes", Mom said "she always does."
I asked "So why do you keep telling her hello?" "Because" Mom said "I have to look at myself in the mirror every day and I know I did the right thing. She is the one who has to live with herself." That gave me a lot of food for thought and I never forgot the incident.
I had the honor of writing the above obit. She truly was a lady in every sense of the word and I will admire her, respect her and be thankful for her influence in my life until the day I die.
