Note: Sep 7 1904 aboard the steamship "Pennsylvania" Emmigrated with wife Bertha and son Erich. On records it was listed as from Grandenz (Graudenz), Germany. Fares were paid by "uncle"; ship manifest says William Mafs [Maas, Moss] who in 1900-1908 lived at 478 11th Street in Oshkosh (west of Ohio St) and worked at Paine Lumber Company (same company where Carl worked). ((Suspect ship manifest is inferring that Carl Gahr is head of household and William Maas is "his" uncle). In 1898 a Mrs. Caroline Krause Grosch, about age 63, (widow of William Grosch who died in 1896 in Wolf River Township, Winnebago County) , lived at 478 11th St. In 1895 Ferdinand Mathe lived there. Prior to 1895 residents were John Binder, George Koeberl. In 1908 William Maas is listed as retired and living at 1018 11th Street (west of Knapp St). He died in 1909. His wife Caroline died in 1915.
