  David G. Gahr, age 69, entered eternal life on Dec 6, 1999 after a very courageous battle with cancer, at his home in Oshkosh surrounded by his family. He was able to maintain a great sense of humor throughout his entire illness, and many times brought laughter to the doctors and nurses at UW-Madison Hospital. His love of life and the caring he showed helped his caregivers during the difficult times be a little easier.
 The son of Eric and Leone (Genske) Gahr was born on Jan 3, 1930. On Oct 11, 1948 he married the love of his life and best friend, Loretta Mueller at Sacred Heart Church in Oshkosh. He worked at Kimberly-Clark Corp for 39 years before retiring in 1989. He was a Master Craftsman in woodworking and carpentry, and he loved working in his garden and shared the fruits of his labor freely with the residents of Court Tower and Marion Manor. He also loved the cabin he built in the woods outside of Wittenberg, especially when surrounded by his family.
  He is proudly survived by his loving wife Loretta;
 his daughters:
 Linda R. (Gary) Block,
 and Karen L. (Steven) Casper;
 special sister-in-law, Yvonne (Wayne) Ruechel;
 special nephew, Mark (Jenny) Ruechel;
 great-nephew, Hunter Ruechel, whose cards, pictures, and homemade treats always brought a smile to his face when he was in the hospital.
  He is further survived by his brothers:
 Richard (Eleanor) Gahr,
 Donald Gahr;
 a sister Betty (Roy) Simons;
 sister-in-law, Sandra Vienola;
 brother-in-law Milton Koch;
 nieces and nephews.
  He was preceded in death by his parent and parent-in-law, John and Rose Mueller.
  Dad, you will be greatly missed in this life, and we know as you told Mom you will wait for her as us in heaven. A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church, on Algoma Blvd. in Oshkosh at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec 11, 1999 with the Reverends Ralph and Carol Dibiaso-Snyder officiating. Visitation with family will follow the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the nurses and doctors at UW-Madison and Affinity Hospice.
 Grandparents are white like angels They sound like beautiful voices They taste like strawberry-rhubarb sauce They smell like a lovely garden rose They're like fresh spring trees in the yard They feel like my favorite blanket Grandparents are God's special people.
 Written by David Casper at age 4.
