21 Jun 99 From Kevin Jacob Pitzer at [email protected]:
My indian story is that a Pitzer girl 6 years old was taken by Indian's on a raid and raised as an Indian, when she was 16 or so she was taken back to her family by whites raiding the Indian village. She [had] a baby by a indian chiefs brother. This child's name was uriah and/or elias and of course he took his mother's last name Pitzer. This is the Pitzer line we came from...
This next story is not written any where it has been told word of mouth. When Jacob was in the civil war he was wounded in the leg. The Doctors wanted to cut his leg off. But he would not stand for [it] to be removed. A friend slipped [him] a pistol to use if the doctors tried to take the leg off. Any way they didn't take the leg off and the leg got well.
I was also told by word of mouth that every morning when Jacob set up on side bed before he got dressed he would reach under his bed and get [his] jug of moonshine and take a big drink."

From Beth Mitchell ([email protected]) at Rootsweb Brown County, Ohio Message Board, 5 Jan 10:
“I am the g-g-grandaughter of James W. Pitzer. I have researched the family for 20 plus years. There seems to be much misinformation that has been accepted. The Indian story is not provable in any way. The information I have as far as lineage is me, Thomas Hamer Pitzer, Jacob Andrew Pitzer, James W. Pitzer, Samuel Pitzer, Matthias Pitzer who came to America from Germany. Have obits, deeds, etc.”
