Note: Lizzie Mae and her sister Daisy Bell grew up in extreme Poverty. They married and remained in Elberton, Georgia. The poverty continued. A 1930 Census for Elberton Georgia shows Lizzie Mae Married to her 1st Husband (James Talbert Williams) and having 3 kids. They are living on Gorden St. Her sister Daisy Bell is married to her 1st Husband (William Russell Julien) they also have 3 kids and are living on Wilson St. These two streets were very close to each other. My Uncle Robert (a son of Lizzie Mae) was 5 years old at the time. He once told me that he sometimes would go all day long without any food. He does not remember getting new shoes or clothes. My mother (Mary Irene) was only 2 years old but she does remember her and her cousins not having much of anything. My uncle Robert remembers when his Father (James Talbert) left them to go to South Carolina to look for a place to live and find work. Eventually, Lizzie Mae and her family did move to South Carolina. Times remained hard. My Mother once told me that her mother (Lizzie Mae) never talked about her parents, sister Daisy Bell or his brother WIllie Martin. It is like she just wanted to forget all of her Loftis Family. Lizzie May and James Talbert had 5 children.Times remained bad. When the kids were in their teens, they had to find jobs to help out with all the living expenses. Lizzie Mae became a widower at the age of 36. She later married Levi Morris Abt 1939 and had 2 more children. Lizzie was very strong headed and could be mean at times. I am sure it was a result of all the hardships she sufferred in her life. Lizzie had a long life. Obituary Aiken Standard, Aiken, S.C. Sunday, May 14, 1995 Page 7A Deaths And Funerals Lizzie M.
