Notes
a. Note:   James Talbert Williams and his family were extremely poor. When he passed, the family had no money for burial. The local government in Aiken County South Carolina paid for his burial expenses.
James Talbert Williams death certificate list his birth as May 1. No year is given. It says he lived 53 years, 6 months and 22 days and list his date of death as November 23, 1938. That would make his birthday May 1, 1885. The 1900 Census report list his birthday as April 1886. His WW1 draft registration card list his birthday as May 1 or 12, 1883. (Hard to read the date) His tombstone reads 1884-1938. There is a two year discrepancy as to what his actual date of birth is. The death certificate list the informant of death as Lizzy Mae Williams of Langley, South Carolina. He was buried on 24 November 1938 at the Langley Cemetery in Langley, South Carolina. Two sources list his birthday and month as 1 May. I will use this along with the year printed on his tombstone and list his birthday as 1 May 1884. However, his birthday will remain suspect.
A 1900 United States Census confirms that at age 14, James Talbert was living with his father James R Williams and mother Mattie C (Caroline) Talbert. The Census also confirms that James Talbert had a brother named Robert L (Lee) age 12 and two sisters, Lizzie E. age 16 and Annie L. Age 3. Family members have no information on Lizzie or Annie. The Census states that all family members were born in South Carolina and that all can read and write. The Census also says that James Talbert's father owns his home and is free of mortgage.
James Talbert Williams was married prior to his marriage to Lizzy Mae Loftis. His WW1 draft registration card list his next of kin as Runette Williams. A article found on Roots web (Damon Tree) Ancestry.com says in 1916, James Talbert Williams Married 13 year old Runette Holt as a convenience to the family. The article says they divorced in 1918.
James is buried in the Langley Cemetery in Langley, South Carolina.
