 Greene County Loses
 Staunch Republican
  Kenneth W. Scott, 81 years, prominent Waynesburg attorney, died Sunday evening, October 14, 1962, in Greene County Memorial Hospital. He had been a patient since September 29, when he had suffered a fall on the steps of his brotherÕs home on South Morris street, where he resided. Mr. Scott had been in failing health for some time.
  He was a son of John Wesley Scott and Matilda Cosgray Scott, and was born March 30, 1880, in Monongahela. The family moved to Waynesburg when Mr. Scott was three years old, and he had continued to reside here. He attended the public schools, Waynesburg Academy and graduated from Waynesburg College in 1907 with a bachelor of science degree.
  Mr. Scott read law with M. E. Carroll and was admitted to the Greene County Bar in 1913. In 1915, he was admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the United States District Court.
  Mr. Scott had served 42 years as secretary of the Borough of Waynesburg.
  His long service in this office won statewide recognition on his retirement in June 1960. He was presented a special service and longevity award in a ceremony before the convention of the Pennsylvania State Association of boroughs in Pittsburgh. Some 1,600 delegates from 950 Pennsylvania boroughs applauded and Mr. Scott was cited as the oldest public servant, in tenure, in the Commonwealth.
  On October 11, 1922, Mr. Scott was united in marriage with Miss Viola Porter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Porter of Center Township. Her death occurred July 23, 1939.
  Mr. Scott was a staunch Republican and had served 14 years as county chairman.
  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg; of Waynesburg Lodge 757, B. P. O. Elks; a life member of the Order of Moose; a member of Waynesburg Lodge 153, F. & A. M; the Royal Arch Council of Washington, and the New Castle Consistory, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
  Surviving are one brother, Don C. Scott of Waynesburg, and a nephew, W. D. Porter, of Detroit, Mich. A sister died in infancy.
  Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Weaver Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. A. D. Sowers. Interment in Green Mount Cemetery.

 KENNETH WILLIAM SCOTT-A lifelong resident of Waynesburg, Kenneth William Scott is prominently identified with the local legal fraternity, and he is also active in the civic, political and fraternal life of this town. He was born March 30, 1883 (NOTE: THE YEAR OF BIRTH CONFLICTS WITH THAT FOUND IN OTHER SOURCES), the son of John Wesley and Anna Matilda (Cosgray) Scott. John Wesley Scott, born in Amwell Township, Washington County, in 1837 was a successful merchant, and was also interested in the insurance business. He died July 25, 1925.
  Kenneth William Scott attended the local public schools and later Waynesburg Academy. He then enrolled at Waynesburg College, where he received his degree of Bachelor of Science in 1907. He then began the study of law in the offices of M. E. carroll, and was admitted to the Greene County bar in 1913. In October, 1915, he was admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, Pennsylvania Superior Court and the United States District Court, and opened his own offices in January, 1916, and in his more than twnety yearsÕ practice, he has earned a high reputation for the capabale manner in which he has upheld the rights of those who have entrusted their interests to his care.
  He attends the First Christian Church, and is a prominent Republican, having been secretary of the Waynesburg Town Council for twenty years, and secretary of the Republican County Committee for twelve years. He is affiliated with Lodge No. 757, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 153, Free and Accepted Masons, Royal Arch Council of Washington, Pennsylvania, and New Castle Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, and he is also a member of the Greene County Bar Association. In addition he is a director of the Security Building and Loan Association He was married at Philadelphia, October 11, 1922, to Viola Porter, a native of Center Township, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Porter.
