Source - ÒWaynesburg DemocratÓ newspaper, Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania, Friday, October 11, 1907 ÑÑÑÑÑÑÑÑ- REASON HUFFMAN The subject of this sketch was born in Center township, near Oak Forest, Greene county, Pa., June 24, 1831, and died near the same place, October 4, 1907, being aged 76 years, three months and ten days. He was the son of Joseph and Sarah Huffman. He was one of a family of twelve children, three sisters and two brothers surviving. The sisters are Mrs. Catherine Rush, wife of Phillip Rush of Waynesburg, Mrs. Sarah A. Rush, of Graysville, wife of Joseph Rush, deceased, and Nancy Huffman of Waynesburg. The brothers are Wm. Huffman, of Time, Pa., and John Huffman, of Missouri. He was married October 15th, 1859, to Sidney, daughter of Richard and Catharine Stewart, of Antioch, Ohio. He was the father of nine children. His wife and eight children survive. The children are Joseph L., of Meadville, Mo., and William R., Albert L., A. C. J., John F., Emma F., wife of George W. Frye, Biddie E., wife of Harry Kent, and Isa O., wife of George Graham, all of Greene county, Pa. Nancy V., the only child deceased, died in infancy. Mr. Huffman united with the Christian church at Pleasant Ridge, Pa., in 1862. He took a very active part in the building of the church house there and served his Master faithfully and consistently until his death. He was a farmer and stock dealer all his life. He was frugal and industrious, lived comfortably and managed to accumulate a modest heirship for each of his children. His early education like that of many men of his age was rather limited, but a rare about of good common sense compensated in degree this deficiency. Mr. Huffman belonged to that old school of citizenship in which sterling manhood, honest industry and strict economy were taught and practiced. He helped to hew down the primeval forests and convert the wilds into golden harvests and green fields. He gave the years of his life, his energy and manly vigor to make a happy home and rear to manhood and womanhood the children that had been given him. He did not seek for fame but was content to lead an honest industrious life in the community where he resided, to be useful to his neighbors and and (sic) family and helpful to the church of his choice. It has been well said that Òan honest man is the noblest work of God.Ó The subject of this sketch has been noted for his sterling honesty during all the years of his life. The home of which he was the head, the community in which he resided, the church of which he was a member have sustained a loss. But their loss is his gain for he has gone from labor here to reward above.
