Glenn E. Porter Sr., 83, formerly of Charleroi, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 1994, in the home of his daughter, Ellie Snow of St. SimonÕs Island, Ga., following an extended illness.

Glenn E. Porter Sr., ex-Charleroi director
Glenn E. Porter Sr., 83, formerly of Charleroi, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 1994, at the home of his daughter, Ellie Snow, of St. SimonÕs Island, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mr. Porter was born Jan. 21, 1911, in Greene County, a son of the late David Edward and Lucy Meighen Porter.
He was manager of the Porter Finance Corporation and Porter Consumer Discount Corporation in Charleroi until his retirement in 1977.
Mr. Porter had been living on St. SimonÕs Island, Ga., since 1989.
He was a former school board member in the Charleroi School District.
Mr. Porter was graduated from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa., and was a member of the Phi Delta fraternity.
He was a 50-year member of F&AM Lodge No. 164 of Washington, Pa.
Mr. Porter was also a member of the Magic City Bridge Club and BPO Elks Lodge No. 494, both of Charleroi.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanore ÒEllieÓ and Dr. James Snow of St. SimonÕs Island, Ga., and Carol and Dr. Robert Matthews of Fairfax Station, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Diane Porter of Mapleview, Charleroi; eight grandchildren, Laurel Snow, Ryan Snow, Ronnie Matthews, Julie Matthews, Laura Matthews, Katie Matthews, Tracie Porter and Eric Porter.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Porter was also preceded in death by his wife, Annetta ÒNettieÓ Porter and a son Glenn E. Porter Jr. ÒPeteÓ
There will be no public visitation.
The Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home Inc., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, is handling arrangements.
PORTER - Glenn E. Sr., 83, formerly of Charleroi, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 1994, at the home of his daughter, Ellie Snow, of St. SimonÕs Island, Ga., following an extended illness. There will be no public viewing. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, Nov. 7, 1994, at 11 a.m. in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home Inc., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. The family requests that contributions in the memory of Glenn E. Porter Sr. be made to the American Heart Association. The Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home Inc. is handling arrangements.
