The census indicates that he was an 70 year old farmer, who was born in December, 1829. He had been married for 16 years and was living with his wife, 2 sons, and a granddaughter on a farm which was owned and mortgaged. He is listed as having been born in Pennsylvania as were his father and mother. His given name and middle initial are listed as "Caleb A" in this census. The granddaughter was Ina L. Spragg (line 57). The census indicates she was single, 11 years of age and born in July, 1888, in Missouri. Her parents are listed as having been born in Pennsylvania. She had attended school for 5 months during the census year. 1910 (April 19-20) census data from the census images for Wayne Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania (Enumeration District 121 - sheet 2B - image 4 - line 67) on Ancestry.com. The census indicates that he was an 80 year old farmer, working on a general farm on his own account. He had been married for 26 years and was living with his wife, a son, and a granddaughter on a farm which was owned free of any mortgage. The census indicates she was single and 31 years of age. She is listed as having been born in Missouri. -------------------- Caleb A. was born December 18, 1829, and is one of Greene Count's most substantial citizens. He was united in marriage, November 6, 1851, with Sarah Johnson, a daughter of William and Nancy (Lantz) Johnson. The former is deceased, and the latter is living. By this marriage Mr. Caleb A. Spragg is the father of five children--Sylvenus L., a prominent physician of Pittsburgh,Penn.; Francis M. and David G., of Harrison County, Mo.,; William E., proprietor of the marble works at Waynesburg, and Clara N., wife of Corbly K. Spragg. Mrs. Spragg departed this life December 21, 1882. After her death Mr. Spragg was again united in marriage, April 6, 1884, with Matilda Porter, a daughter of John and Hannah (Rinehart) Porter. This union has been blessed with one child--Porter M. In connection with the raising of stock and the management of his farm of 125 acres, upon which he has bestowedmuch care and attention, Mr. Spragg has filled various offices in his township, and served as a member of the school board two terms. Spragg Caleb A Spragg, a well known and highly respected citizen, died at his home at Spragg, this county, Sunday, August 10, aged 84 years, after a two years illness from cancer. Mr. Spragg was a son of David and Nancy Gordon Spragg, early pioneer sttlers in Greene county. He was a prominent farmer and stock raiser and had spent practically his entire life in Wayne township. Mr. Sraggg was a member of the Methodist Protestant church, and always took an active part in church work. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Sarah Johnson, who died a number of years ago. He was later united in marriage with Miss Tillie Porter, who with the following children survive: Dr. L. S. L. Spragg, of Wheeling, W Va; F. M. Spragg, of Ridgeway, Missouri, and Mrs. C. K. Spragg, of Waynesburg; Alonzo Spragg, of Franklin township and Porter Spragg, at home. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Spragg M. P. church, conducted by Rev. Foolks and the Rev. Jones D. D., of Waynesburg. Interment was made in the Spragg cemetery.
