 JACOB KING.
Mr. Jacob King, one of the most highly respected citizen of Wayne township, was stricken at his home near Kughntown, Sunday morning, February 21, 1909, of paralysis. He arose on Sunday morning apparently as well as usual, ate a hearty breakfast and attended to the chores about the stable, etc. After this he came into the house and was seated by the fire, reading, when his son, David, noticed his hand drop to his side, his head fall back as though he was asleep. He at once sprang to his side, asked him if he suffered pain and his father replied: No. Medical aid was summoned but in a short time the paralytic stroke extended to the other side and all hope of recovery was gone. The first stroke came about 9 o'clock, a.m., and at 7 o'clock, p. m., the spirit was freed from its tenement of clay.
Jacob King was a son of George King, deceased, and was born on the farm where he died, August 11, 1846. Here he grew to manhood amid the quiet rural surroundings and among a pastoral people, noted for their strict integrity and their industry. In 1870 he married Lucinda Porter, daughter of John Porter. It would be hard indeed to find a husband more devoted to his wife and family than was Jacob King. He was an ideal husband, father and citizen. Quiet and unassuming yet he discharged faithfully his every duty to his family, to his fellow-man and to his God. He had long been a faithful, active member of the Oak Shade M. E. church and for many years had served as superintendent of the Sunday school there. What higher tribute can be paid to mortal man? A true husband, a true father, a true neighbor, a true christian; honorable and upright in his dealings with his fellowman. Living at peace with his family, his neighbors and his God. The community will miss him, the church will miss him, but most of all will he be missed in the home he loved so well. He leaves besides his widowed wife, the following children: D. R. P. King a traveling salesman, Chas. H. King, attorney, of Waynesburg; James King, of Brave; Jesse King at home and Mrs. Donley South, of Mt. Morris and Mrs. Hiram Sedwick, of Hoovers Run. Also the following brothers and sisters, William King, of San Diego, California; John King, of Jefferson; George King, of Morgan township, and Mrs. Sarah Yeager, mother of Sheriff Yeager, of Waynesburg.
The funeral services were conducted Tuesday from his late home by Rev. S. S. White. The Kughntown Lodge, I. O. O. F., of which he was a member, attended in a body and rendered the impressive funeral service of the order at the grave. Interment at the Pine Bank Cemetery.
