He had been in poor health for several years. The deceased was born June 22, 1884, in East Finley Township, Washington County, a son of Mansfield and Nancy Plants Francis. He was a member of Union Valley Church of West Finley and an active member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association. Mr. Francis was a retired mail carrier having carried mail from the Claysville Post Office for 32 years. December 1, 1906, he married Josephine Porter, daughter of David and Jane Porter, Nineveh. The couple celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary December 1, 1960. Surviving are his wife and five sons and daughters, William Ronald Francis, Lorain, O.; Charles Kenneth Francis, Claysville; Margaret, wife of Robert Newlyn, Prospreity (sic); Leanna, wife of Kenneth Bristor, Washington; Grace, wife of Harold Meighen, Washington; five sisters, Mrs. Grace Sprowls, Claysville; Mrs. Anna Post, Waynesburg; Mrs. Isadore Day, LaJunta, Colo.; Mrs. Nannie Brunn, Bonner Springs, Kan.; Mrs. Sara Orris, Denver, Colo. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two daughters and one son; three brothers and three sisters. FRANCIS - Friends of George Plants Francis, 212 Irwin street, Claysville, who died Saturday, December 10, 1960, in his home will be received in the Brownlee Funeral Home, Claysville, after 2 p. m. Sunday, December 11, where services will be held Tuesday, December 13, at 1:30 p. m. in charge of the Rev. Arthur Day Jr., pastor of Claysville Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Claysville Cemetery.
